Beaches and aperitifs in Ploče

One of the main areas along with the Old Town and Pile, Ploče is a residential area found outside the city’s impressive walls. It’s home to Dubrovnik’s famous Banje beach and a number of 5-star hotels. There’s also 24-hour, pay-for on-street parking and a taxi rank.

Dubrovnik is built on a hill and the Ploče area is quite steep, so most properties offer amazing views over the city’s Old Town, the sparkling Adriatic Sea and Lokrum island.

Insider’s tip: St Jacob beach

It’s a lovely walk from the Old Town to St Jacob (Sveti Jakov) beach, and you’ll be wowed by the luxury properties. As you get towards the end, you’ll find the pebble beach, which you can reach by walking down a 100 steps. Wonderful views await you.

We love St Jacob beach because it’s not usually crowded – perhaps because of the steps, or because it’s not as well known as the more famous Banje beach. Just make sure you don’t forget anything, or you’ll have to walk all the way up the steps again!

On both the St Jacob and Banje beaches, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas by the day. There’s also a bar and restaurant. If you head out in the evening, enjoy an aperitif at the Excelsior Hotel, Frana Supila 12. The views from the bar terrace are simply magical!

Staying in Ploče, Dubrovnik

All properties in Ploče are a maximum 15-20 minutes’ walk to the Old Town. If you have walking difficulties or small children, we advise checking the exact location of the rental property and the number of steps before booking.
