Šipan, the perfect island break from the daily routine

Bay view, Sipan

Dubrovnik is the ideal escape for many travellers. But if you really want to get away from it all, Šipan is for you: stunning scenery, hidden coves, sparkling waters, excellent restaurants and lots to explore. A real paradise on Earth!

Šipan is the biggest of the Elafiti Islands. Its most well-known areas are the fishing villages of Šipanska Luka and Suđurađ, where you’ll arrive if you take the local Jadrolinija ferry. Suđurađ is a charming village, with restaurants, bars and shops.

How to get around Šipan

To explore the island, you can hire a bike when you get to Suđurađ. Discover Šipan’s lush Mediterranean landscape, vineyards, orchards, beautiful summer houses and quaint churches.

If you prefer walking, the villages are 4.5km apart and the slightly hilly route will take you about 1 to 1.5 hours. There’s also a local bus that runs between the two ports according to the ferry timetable.

Visit Šipanska Luka

Šipanska Luka is our favourite part of the island, thanks to its chilled-out atmosphere, lovely seafront walk and wonderful scenery, which make this port a very special place.

At the end of the harbour, there’s a little pebble beach with a bar where you can rent a lounger and a sun umbrella. On the opposite side of the bay, you can search out your own olive tree for some shade and enjoy a swimming spot to yourself!

Where to eat on Šipan

Foodies will be spoilt for choice on Šipan! There are several restaurants offering fish and other seafood, and we highly recommend Kod Marka in Šipanska Luka: authentic local cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients in an amazing waterfront location with a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. The locals go for the homemade octopus polpette, whose recipe the chef keeps secret!

Kod Marka has another restaurant in the bay that serves meat. Kod Marka II also offers delicious food in a wonderful setting under palm trees, with unspoilt sea views across the bay and a friendly, attentive service.

If you’re travelling with children, there’s a playground where they can have fun while you enjoy your meal in peace! In summer, a local musician performs a few evenings a week. To book a table at Kod Marka II, call +385 20 758 007.

Where to stay on Šipan

There are two hotels on the island: the 4-star Bozica Hotel in Suđurađ and the 3-star Šipan Hotel in Šipanska Luka. Or if you’re looking for a more authentic experience, we can offer you a room at the beautiful Les Clapotis villa in Šipanska Luka.
